Gender Equity Council Podium

The Universal Design Podium has arrived at GSLIS in room 126. The Universal Design Podium final prototype was unveiled at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in March, 2011.  It includes:

  • Easy push button operation allowing speakers to raise and lower podium using two electronic activators
  • Microphone
  • Flexible light on both sides of the podium
  • Slide-out for wheelchair access accommodating both left-handed or right-handed speakers
  • Power provided on both sides
  • Slide-out cup holder
  • Space for bag/purse storage
  • Heavy-duty wheels
  • Hidden stool for extra height
  • Modesty panel

The project was an initiative of the Gender Equity Council in cooperation with Facilities and Services.  The Gender Equity Council is a group that serves to implement initiatives and strategies to improve representations and leadership roles of women in every facet of the university.  The Council also seeks to promote issues of gender equity throughout campus and during the 2010-2011 calendar year they launched a series of projects that would promote gender equity issues throughout campus.  These projects included:

  • Restrooms
  • Privacy within men’s and women’s facilities
  • Entry Privacy
  • Accommodations for families
  • Potty parity issues
  • Height accessibility
  • Lactation Spaces
  • Adjustable Podiums
